Unidos pero diversos [United but diverse] is a small photo series compiled by Aimee Flores for Sangre Migrante. The series is a small snapshot of the diversity of the Latin American diaspora in Australia.

Each participant was asked to send a portrait of themselves and answer questions regarding ethnicity and assumptions.

In an Australian context, Latin American’s are often misidentified. This was brought to my attention after a recent trip to the United States where I was correctly identified as Latina but rarely asked “where I was from” despite having an Australian accent. There is a toxic culture in Australia surrounding the question “Where are you from?”. To assume one is not Australian because of their appearance is not okay.

Latin American’s are united but diverse.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who participated.
